A Birthday Surprise

As my birthday was approaching last year, I realized that the best gift I could receive was some rest and relaxation. I was shopping online for a nearby resort when I stumbled on Lansdowne Resort and Spa in Leesburg, Virginia. It is surrounded by such a quaint area with vineyards, hiking along the Potomac River, and gorgeous views. I just knew this was the place.

I was right. At check-in, the front desk learned it was my birthday. They presented me with a bottle of white wine, chilled and ready to serve. I thanked them and promised to share with my friends who were meeting me for dinner. I’m not a big drinker, but I knew my dinner guests would love it. I then enjoyed hours at the spa feeling so free and weightless. It was as if 100 pounds had fallen off me as I floated out of the spa and headed up to my room.

While getting ready for dinner, I heard a knock at my door. I ignored it as I was not expecting anyone. The knocking continued, and I heard a voice behind the door say “Dining room.” I responded, “I didn’t order anything.” The knocks were persistent, so I finally threw on the robe from the closet and opened the door ready to give a little roar.

Boy, am I glad there was a delay in my response. At my door was a young lady with balloons, a slice of cake, and a birthday card signed by members of the resort staff. Needless to say, I left for my birthday dinner not only relaxed but gleaming from ear to ear.

Well done, Lansdowne. It was one of my best and most memorable birthdays ever!
